About the event
Rooted in Memory — Where We’ve Been
The first Rooted in Memory series explored the many ways people preserve memory — through cultural tours, embodied memory mapping, genealogy research, formal archiving, writing, and publishing. It affirmed that archiving is not just institutional work — it is lived practice, already happening in kitchens, churches, backyards, and barbershops.
Rooted in Memory II — Where We’re Going
This next phase is more focused:
To bring institutional archivists and community memory keepers into direct, reciprocal exchange — not as authorities dispensing knowledge from above, but as co-stewards building together.
